General Airport Information
- Where is the airport?
Southwest Florida International Airport is located southeast of the city of Fort Myers, roughly three miles east of I-75 (exit 128 from north or southbound on I-75) and south off Treeline Ave. The airport's mailing address is 11000 Terminal Access Road, Suite 8671, Fort Myers, FL 33913. Click here for directions and map to RSW.
- What identification is required to clear security?
Passengers age 18 and older must present photo identification, such as a passport, driver's license or military ID issued by a local, state or federal government agency. For international flights, valid passports, visas or other documentation may be required. Passengers without proper identification may be denied boarding. For more information, call the TSA Contact Center toll free at (866) 289-9673 during the following hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. You may also email [email protected].
- Can non-ticketed passengers go to the airline gates?
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations allow only passengers with tickets through security clearance areas and into the concourses. If you are assisting or meeting a child traveling alone, a person with a disability or someone else who needs your help, please contact your airline.
- How many carry-on items are allowed?
Check with your airline, as quantity, size, and weight restrictions vary by carrier. For a list of airlines, click here.
- How much preflight time should I allow when planning my trip to the airport?
Please contact your airline and ask for its recommendation. Recommended check-in times differ by airline and change during peak travel times. Click here for a list of airlines, their toll-free phone numbers and links to their websites. During peak travel times, the Transportation Security Administration recommends that passengers arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time for a domestic flight and three hours prior to the departure of an international flight.
- Which airlines serve the airport?
- Where can I smoke inside the airport?
Nowhere. Smoking is prohibited inside the airport terminal.
- Are animals allowed inside the terminal?
No, per Lee County Ordinance 94-09 (as amended), non-service animals, including emotional support animals, are not allowed in the airport terminal unless they are traveling with their owner/handler. If they are traveling, LCPA requests the owner to have travel paperwork on-hand at all times.
Non-service animals must be kept in a carrier, carried or restrained by a leash no longer than 5-feet long. LCPA requests the owner/handler to maintain control of their animal at all times while on airport property.
If an animal exhibits aggressive behavior or poses a threat to the health and safety of others, the owner must immediately place the animal in a carrier or remove it from the airport terminal.
All animals must be house-broken. The owner is responsible for cleaning up and reporting any mess left by the animal. Please note, there are designated Animal Relief Areas at both ends of the terminal building on the lower level (near the gazebo and loading dock) or across the street from baggage claim on the lower level near the parking garage.
An airport terminal is a busy and noisy environment. The Lee County Port Authority has seen a significant increase in animals in the facility that has resulted in congestion, safety and sanitation issues. Due to this activity, it is not a pet-friendly location and airport visitors who are picking up friends and family need to leave their pets at home.
This does not apply to trained service animals used by an individual with a disability, as defined by Section 4.03.08(1)(d), Florida Statutes, or any law enforcement animals of a federal, state or local agency in performance of their duties.
